If you need your sunday morning run but want to pick up some of the litter you see en-route, then plogging is the right activity for you! It is exercise: jogging which involves picking litter. See https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/plogging for a more complete background.
Organised jointly by both the Walden Wombles and Saffron Striders, we plog on a monthly or bi-monthly schedule, with dates selected so as not to clash with the Striders race calendar.
Dates for upcoming events
Sunday November 24th: location to be announced
Sunday December 29th: location to be announced
Details of the events will be shared via email and WhatsApp, so please contact Thomas at plogging@waldenwombles.org.uk to be added to the list.
Routes include the country lanes around Saffron Walden: West (London Road, Littlebury, Chestnut Ave), North (Little Walden Road, Windmill Hill), East (Cole End Lane), and South (Wenden Road / Walden Road). Depending on route, we start at the Council Office, Lord Butler or Market Square.
Safety: We wear high-vis vests which are provided by the Wombles. Please bring your gloves (there will be few spare pairs available).
Pace: We generally run at jogging pace; some ploggers will jog at a relatively constant pace; other ploggers will pick litter, bend, squat and sprint to catch up with the group. All good, gentle exercise!
